The McMaster Platelet Immunology Laboratory performs comprehensive research and testing to investigate immune platelet disorders, including Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP), Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT), Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT), Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), and Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT).
Education is integral to our research. Core faculty and research staff are committed to the support of graduate and undergraduate students. For over 30 years the laboratory has advanced knowledge of the pathology of immune mediated thrombocytopenias under the direction of Dr. Donald Arnold, Dr. Ishac Nazy and Dr. John Kelton. In collaboration with other investigators, including Dr. Theodore Warkentin, the laboratory has produced over 300 journal articles and book chapters, expanding our understanding of platelet disorders and directly advancing management of patients.
The laboratory’s research is made possible by the generous contributions of the Boris family and DeGroote family, along with the funding received from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
